The mighty Fagaras Mountains, often referred to as the ‘Alps of Transylvania’, provide stunning ridge walks and an opportunity to ascend Moldoveanu, the highest peak in Romania (2,544 metres).
With Moldoveanu Peak reaching into the sky, and cascading valleys leading to the mighty Olt River, it's plain to see why so many adventure seekers and trekking enthusiasts choose this region of Romania. The views from the summit are magnificent and the lush landscape provides stunning hiking conditions.
Groups can visit the scenic Balea Lake or climb the long steps to Poienari Fortress, the real Dracula’s castle. The Fagaras mountains are also home to the famous Transfagarasan Highway – claimed by many to be the best road in the world for driving, thanks to its twists, turns, and natural beauty (the road is normally closed between November and June due to snow and unfavourable conditions).
