Kota Kinabalu, situated on Borneo's northwest coast, has a host of exciting activities ranging from island tours and scuba diving to exploring the city's historical culture and its numerous craft markets.

As the capital of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu has grown in the tourism industry and is now described as an exciting gateway into the island of Borneo. There are popular diving trips and courses on offer, where pupils can obtain their PADI Open Water qualification, opening up opportunities to study and research fish populations, or discover World War II wrecks on the sea bed.

With its close proximity to Kinabalu Park and Mount Kinabalu, the city is also an ideal base for hiking and wildife watching - highlights include orangutans, gibbons and one of the world’s largest flowers, the rafflesia. Additionally, it is home to the Kota Kinabalu Wetland, managed by the Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society. Measuring just 24 hectares, it offers students an opportunity to discover the diminishing mangrove forest and observe up to 80 species of birds, as well as the chance to monitor fiddler crabs and lizards.

With historical monuments such as the Atkinson clock tower, art galleries and several craft markets, this city offers plenty of opportunities for schools to explore, research and learn.
