Broadening the mind
Most of us are familiar with the well-know phrase – travel broadens the mind - but as adults, teachers and parents it’s very hard to quantify just how much of our knowledge has been accumulated through travel and how important it is in so many different ways. Communication skills can be enhanced and understanding and learning from different cultures helps us to think about our own lifestyles in comparison, frequently valuing things we had previously taken for granted.
Confidence boost
It’s fair to say that many of us are quite happy to carry on our daily routines, comfortable in familiarity and happy not to be challenged in our local environment. However, whenever we do break from routine and – feel the fear but do it anyway – we grow as individuals, learning lessons which help us to become more familiar and accepting of the unknown which is only beneficial for future and more challenging scenarios. Children can only learn and grow through experience.
Learning to be independent
School trips can be a great mechanism for helping children develop into adults.
“I learnt how to adapt to situations that I wouldn't normally be in. Also how to travel successfully and be organised to get the most out of the trip”. Student – trip to Morocco
The learning starts a long time before the trip actually departs as students initiate ways to fundraise for their own trip and also for the community projects they will be involved with. Our team will be on hand from day one to give advice and support regarding the forthcoming destination, what to pack etc., and students will benefit by taking control of their own involvement in the group trip as a whole.
Enhance curriculum work
Whether you travel with students wanting to immerse themselves in some biology field research in Borneo, geographers keen to witness the geysers and glaciers of Iceland or studies of human geography or the religions of India, we are able to offer a tailor-made itinerary to specifically enhance the classroom studies of your chosen subjects back at home.
Teamwork and better relationships
It’s fair to say we all feel more relaxed out of the office and classroom environment and when travelling as part of a group we begin to create stronger bonds with those around us. Harness these emotions on an overseas trip, channelling them into a strong team of students who work well together and have better student/teacher relationships. Our projects allow teamwork to flourish.
Critical skills development
Our trips are designed to help students develop some of the key skills they will need in later life such as independent thinking, leadership skills, decision making and the ability to listen to others to name a few. Whether you are trekking in Romania or helping enhance a community school in Namibia these life skills will come into play.
Helping Communities and Wildlife
There is no doubt that we are currently experiencing a climate emergency but stopping all overseas flight travel is not the answer. Many countries communities and wildlife rely on tourism as a means of survival and an increase in poaching and increased poverty could be some of the results of fewer visitors.
