This project is situated in the heart of Zambia's Luambe National Park. The purpose is to enable pupils to study wildlife, learn about conservation and collect and record valuable data. Working with staff from the national park, students will take part in a range of activities designed to study wildlife, understand conservation methods and the impacts facing the park.

  • Help put up camera traps at the waterhole, collect footage and analyse data in small groups to identify what has been through the area during the day and night.
  • Learn more about the challenges, role and life of a ranger in the bush whilst on patrol in the park.
  • Visit Chitungulu village just north of Luambe to see how projects such as chilli-farming instead of cotton farming are working, and visit the local school.
  • Learn how to track wildlife through different identification techniques and trailing methods.

For those taking part in a project itinerary, you will get the chance to assist rangers and researchers as they gather data and information about the wildlife populations in the park. This will be done through methods such as camera traps and population counts. During your visit you will also meet local communities and discover how their lives in and around the park are affected by different wildlife and how their livelihoods affect the park. Your assistance at the park will help provide essential information for researchers and rangers to continue the development and preservation of the region and its wildlife.
