The red sandstone fort at Agra dates from 1565 and is the most important fort in India. Home to the great Mughals, historically the country was governed from here. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the fort was converted into a palace during Shah Jahan’s time when it was reworked extensively with marble and piatra dura inlay.
