The gateway to the Annapurna mountain range, Pokhara is the starting point of many treks in the Himalayan foothills. There are plenty of trekking routes on offer for groups of all abilities, and the town itself offers stunning scenery. There are two hilltops from which to capture fabulous views of the city below, and the World Peace Pagoda and Sarangkot. As well as hikes, Pokhara is a great destination for rafting on one of the many lakes or rivers.
Located over 800 metres above sea level and nine times larger than Kathmandu, Pokhara is filled with a great diversity of flora and fauna which surrounds the valley and higher up the mountain slopes. In the past, Pokhara was a useful trade route between India and Tibet, but today mule trains are instead used to transport goods from the more remote locations of the Himalayas.
