The protected area surrounding Lake Khovsgol is larger than Yellowstone National Park in the USA. It is a haven for a great range of wildlife, including sable, ibex, wolverine, brown bear, wolf and Siberian moose.
Lake Khovsgol is surrounded by several mountain ranges, with the highest peak being Monkh Saridag (3,491 metres) in the Sayan Mountains directly on the Russian border. The lake is home to a few endemic species, including the Hovsgol grayling, which flourishes across the area of the lake. It is a perfect location for school groups to enjoy trekking and nature walks, and to discover a side of nature that is rarely seen.
Follow in the footsteps of Genghis Khan and explore a region rarely seen. Mongolia offers mountain treks, community projects, rare wildlife, and the chance to experience a highly unique national culture.
