The south of Iceland is one of the finest areas in the country to go hiking, and Thórsmörk is arguably the pinnacle. Renowned for its many trekking routes, luscious valleys, freezing rivers, and mountainous fringes, it is an ideal destination for a school trek.

With the rivers Krossá and Markarfljót flowing around the ridge, vibrant green meadows and valleys flourish with mosses, ferns, birches and other shrubs dominate the scenery. Thórsmörk is a sparsely populated area and one of outstanding natural beauty. The rugged peaks of the ridges are tipped with flurries of snow, whilst the rivers flow through volcanic black sand beds that stand out from the greens of the vegetation.
