Dense with vegetation, Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a biological wonder and the last tract of virgin rainforest in Sri Lanka. This small wilderness is home to dozens of endemics.

Saved from previous deforestation and logging by its inaccessibility and tough terrain, Sinharaja Forest Reserve is well-known for its high levels of biodiversity in such a small area. Particularly noted for its rainforest species, it is home to several endemics from pit vipers to birds and butterflies. Leopards and elephants have been encountered in the reserve in the past, however their low numbers make them a special occurrence.
