Almost completely uninhabited, car-free, a diving paradise and a nature haven, Comino is unique among the Maltese Islands for its remoteness and untouched landscapes.

It only takes around 30 minutes to sail to Comino from the main island of Malta and the rewards are well worth the short journey. The waters are quite different to that of Malta due to the white sand, sheltered inlets and greater density of marine life. School groups visiting Comino can take part in course dives, as well as ‘fun dives’ simply to enjoy and explore the area. Students can also head on land to walk the trails and encounter different forms of wildlife – particularly birds.

The island is only three and a half square kilometres in size, but has been of vital importance since the Roman times. Originally used as a hunting and farming island, Comino became a defence staging post by the Knights of Malta against the invading Ottoman Empire. The island was also highly prized as a base for pirates during the 15th to 17th centuries.
