The Blyde River Canyon is a significant natural feature of South Africa, forming part of the Drakensberg escarpment. It is 26 kilometres in length and, on average, around 800 metres deep. Consisting mostly of red sandstone, its highest point is Mariepskop Mountain at 1,944 metres high. The area is unique in its floral diversity.
