Safety Area
It is matters of safety that prevent many teachers from running overseas trips, but with the right back up and support there is no reason why this should be the case. There will always be an element of risk present with any form of travel and outdoor pursuits; this can often be what makes a destination, itinerary or activity so attractive in the first place.
It is obviously vital that any visit to another country is run as safely as possible and that full risk assessments are carried out for all aspects of the trip. It is here that the benefits of using a good overseas operator, such as Schools Worldwide, are most apparent, as they will do much of the health and safety planning for you. The competence of the leader is the most important factor in the safety of participants on an overseas expedition and as such we ensure that all of our leaders are both qualified and experienced. It is also vital that we are aware of the medical status of all the participants and that emergency contact details are taken and are up-to-date.

We treat the safety of every group as our priority and make it our duty to ensure that their safety has been considered before departure and never compromised while overseas.
Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge
Throughout much of 2009 we underwent inspection towards a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge for the provision of overseas expeditions. We were inspected against the Expedition Providers Association Standard for the Provision of Overseas Expeditions for Young People as well as the six quality indicators highlighted by the Department for Children Schools and Families. Schools Worldwide were found to meet the standard in all areas.
Expedition Providers Association
Schools Worldwide have been an active member of the Expedition Providers Association since 2007. EPA is an organisation dedicated to expedition safety and initially came together in 2003 as a small informal group of expedition organisations that met to discuss changes within the industry, to share good practice and talk in an honest, open forum about the industry. EPA has become increasingly recognised within the wider industry and was at the forefront of helping to create BS8848, the EVAC badge for overseas expeditions and became the awarding body for the LOtC expedition Quality Badge scheme.
YET - Young Explorers Trust
The YET is a national charity dedicated to promoting safe and responsible expeditions for young people. It does this by providing advice and support to schools, youth organisations, commercial expedition providers and groups of friends who intend to run their own youth expedition
